What to look at on the scan
The number that matters most is the gap between photos and videos on one side and JSON rows on the other. Rows without a matching file are memories Snapchat listed but did not include; the tool cannot restore those. A very low overlay count on an export you know was full of captioned snaps can mean the overlay files were not in the ZIP you downloaded.
The year breakdown shows where the memories sit. If a year is missing, request My Data again with Export your Memories switched on. The steps are on Snapchat My Data.
Free restore and Pro, side by side
In our test export of 25 photos and 2 videos, the free restore wrote 15 JPEGs and no videos; Pro wrote 25 JPEGs and 2 MP4 files with the overlays baked in. The files and folder names are shown on what is inside the restored ZIP.
If you are unsure it is worth paying
Scan first, restore 15 photos free, open two of them in Photos or Google Photos and check the date and place. If they are right, the rest of the ZIP goes through the same code. Common questions
Does the scan upload my ZIP?
No. The ZIP is read in your browser tab. Nothing is sent to a server, which is also why a multi-gigabyte export can be scanned.
How many photos does the free restore write?
The first 15 photos of the ZIP in one restore job per day, with dates, GPS and overlays on those photos. Videos need Pro. A shared network (an office or a school) has its own small daily limit, so a free restore can already be used up there.
What do I get if the restored date is missing?
Email the original and the restored file within 7 days and the price is refunded; the rule is on the pricing page. The date is checked with any standard EXIF viewer.
Is Pro a subscription?
No. It is one payment. There is no monthly plan.
