What Snap announced
On 26 September 2025 Snap’s newsroom published Introducing Memories Storage Plans. It says most people have less than 5GB of Memories and nothing changes for them. For people above 5GB it introduces paid plans (100GB, 250GB with Snapchat+, 5TB with Snapchat Platinum), 12 months of temporary storage for overflow, and the ability to download Memories to a device.

When you actually pay
You only need a Memories storage plan if you want to keep more than the free allowance inside Snapchat’s cloud — or if you want to open archived tiles after the January 2027 rules apply. Saving new Snaps under 5GB total does not require a subscription.
Snap states it will not automatically delete Memories because you do not upgrade. Archived Memories remain stored as thumbnails; viewing or sharing them in-app needs a plan or a download you already made.

The free export path
My Data at accounts.snapchat.com is still the official bulk export. Toggle Export your Memories and JSON files, download every ZIP part, and keep copies on a drive you control. That download does not replace Snap’s cloud shelf, but it is how you own the files without a monthly storage invoice.
Exporting is not the same as a finished photo library. Snapchat stamps files with the download day while the real capture time sits in memories_history.json. Photo apps sort on EXIF, not the JSON. That is the second hop this site handles.
How this tool fits
We never log into Snapchat. Drop the ZIP you already downloaded; scanning and the free restore run in your browser. Photos get DateTimeOriginal and GPS when the JSON row matches; videos get QuickTime creation time after Pro unlock. Import the restored folder into Google Photos or Apple Photos so years stay on the timeline you took them.

Common questions
Is My Data export free?
Yes. Requesting and downloading your Memories through accounts.snapchat.com → My Data is Snap’s official export. It is separate from a Memories storage subscription.
Do I have to subscribe to download my library?
No. The Help Center lists downloading Memories as a way to open them outside the app. A storage plan is for keeping them in Snapchat’s cloud, not for permission to export.
What changes in January 2027?
Memories more than one year old that are not part of your oldest 5GB can be archived as thumbnails. Opening, editing, or sharing those tiles needs a plan or a copy you already saved off-device. Nothing is archived before January 2027.
