Snapchat Memories show the wrong date in Apple Photos
FixMyExport’s FAQ says Photos will sort chronologically after EXIF. Same rule here. If you already imported the raw ZIP, delete those items (they are dated today) and import the restored folder.
What Photos actually reads
Folder names like Snapchat-Memories/2017/04 are ignored by Photos. That is why a pretty folder tree still lands in Recents.
- Photos: DateTimeOriginal. If missing, it falls back to the file’s added date — that is “today.”
- Videos: QuickTime creation time (mvhd). We patch mvhd/tkhd/mdhd.
- Maps: GPSLatitude / GPSLongitude. JSON Location is not enough until it is inside the file.
Import path
- Restore the ZIP on this site.
- Unzip on the Mac.
- Open Photos → File → Import, or drag the Snapchat-Memories folder.
- Check a 2017 file: Get Info should show the capture day, not export day.
iCloud Photos will sync the dated files to your phone. Do not AirDrop the unrestored -main files or you recreate the bug.
