What Google Photos actually sorts on

Photos: DateTimeOriginal. Videos: QuickTime / MP4 creation time. Folder names are cosmetic. A Memories/2017 folder still displays as 2026 if EXIF says 2026.

Do not use “edit date” one by one

Google Photos can change a date per item. That does not scale to thousands of Snaps and it will not restore GPS. Fix the files, then let backup run.
