The download never becomes a library

Snapchat Memories not downloading? Pick which failure it is

“Not downloading” is four files people describe with one sentence. The fix for a missing email will not date a ZIP you already have, and a date tool will not make Snapchat send the mail.

Pick a row. Ignore the others.

Nothing arrives in email

Submit My Data from a computer, with Memories and JSON both included. Check spam, and check that you are looking at the inbox for the address on the Snapchat account. Large libraries commonly take 24–48 hours and sometimes several days. A first login on a new device can add a security delay. How long My Data takes is the wait, not a workaround.

Refreshing the portal and submitting a second request usually does not speed the first one up. Snapchat’s status page and in-app support own an export that never leaves their side. We cannot generate Memories they did not send, and we never log into the account to ask again.

The button on the phone does nothing useful

Inside the app, Save / Export on one Memory writes a single camera-roll file. It does not start a bulk download, and the other person may see “your snap was exported.” If you expected a ZIP of several years, you are on the wrong button. That distinction is your Snap was exported versus phone vs web.

Requesting My Data in a mobile browser is allowed. Finishing a multi-gigabyte download there often is not. iOS stalls, Android Chrome kills the tab when the screen locks, and you are left with a partial file that later “won’t open.” Request on the phone if you must. Download the email link on a computer.

The link downloads a tiny file

A few kilobytes is not your camera roll. It is usually the HTML index, a JSON list, or an error page saved with a .zip name. Older exports put the real media behind Download Link URLs that expire in about a week. Re-request My Data and download the media archives the same day. The expired download link page is that case. We do not fetch those URLs.

A 2026 bundled export should be large. If the email’s file is tiny and the page said N/A in the download column, you saved the wrong attachment. Go back to the email and download every mydata part, not the preview.

The download starts, then fails

Disk full, a laptop that slept, or a phone that background-killed the browser all produce a truncated ZIP. Archive Utility’s “unable to expand” and Windows “unexpected end of central directory” mean the file stopped mid-write. Delete it and download that part again. Do not rename a .crdownload or .zip.part and hope. Details are on ZIP won’t open.

Split libraries arrive as separate ZIPs (mydata~ plus numbered parts). They are not one spanned archive. Downloading only the first part looks like a failed export when the photos are simply in part two. Download all Memories at once covers grabbing every part.

The ZIP opens and there is still nothing to import

That is a content problem, not a transfer problem. Memories was toggled off, you unpacked chat_media, or the scanner is looking at an HTML report. Our scan says “No photos or videos found” and skips chat media on purpose. Walk the empty ZIP checks, then the missing from the export checks if some years showed up and others did not.

The files downloaded, and the years are wrong

That download worked. Snapchat stamped the files with the export day. Drop the ZIP on the homepage and import the restored folder, not the raw archive. If you already uploaded the raw ZIP, those items are duplicates dated today. The diagnosis is wrong date after export.

Still stuck on a file Snapchat has not produced — deleted Memories, My Eyes Only, a snap you never saved — is outside a downloader. Deleted Memories is the honest limit.

Common questions

How long should I wait for the Snapchat data email?

Often a few hours, commonly 24–48 hours, and large Memories libraries can take several days. A brand-new device login can add a delay. Submitting again usually does not move the first request up.

I tapped Export in the app and nothing downloaded.

In-app Save writes one camera-roll file. It does not build a ZIP of your library. The bulk download is My Data at accounts.snapchat.com.

When should I use this site?

After a ZIP on your computer actually contains photos or videos. The free scan tells you that before you pay. No email, a tiny file, or a ZIP that will not open has to be fixed on Snapchat’s side first.

Use this only when the archive opens and has pictures. No email, a few-kilobyte download, or a file that will not unzip is still a My Data problem. The scan is free either way, and it will say if there is nothing to restore.
