When is Snap deleting memories?
Snapchat has not announced a day it deletes Memories. How do I manage my Memories storage? says Snapchat will not automatically delete Memories because you do not upgrade. Starting in January 2027, and not before, Memories more than one year old that are not part of your oldest 5GB are archived as thumbnails and stay stored. Snap says the app will warn you before that change applies to you. Introducing Memories Storage Plans (September 26, 2025) announced plans for people over 5GB, 12 months of temporary storage for the overflow, and a download to your device. What happens to Memories over the limit
Opening, editing, or sharing an archived Memory needs a storage plan, or a download you already have. Memories from the last year stay open, and so does that oldest 5GB. The newsroom post says nothing changes for people under 5GB. The 5GB storage limit is the cap. Is Snapchat charging for memories? is the plan.
How to save them
That Help Center page lists the download as the way to open Memories outside the app. Request it at accounts.snapchat.com → My Data. The steps are How to download Snapchat Memories and Snapchat My Data. Request a Memories export is that request. Drop the export is the ZIP after the email. The box above is the download tool: it reads that ZIP in the browser and does not log into Snapchat.
Is Snapchat deleting memories?
