Why Snapchat overlay files look like a black square
Snapchat still does not flatten overlays. Early 2025 dated some files. February 2026 bundled media. Neither change merged stickers. A location geofilter on a transparent PNG becomes white type on a black card in Google Photos.
The pair
2024-10-31_UUID-main.jpg is the camera frame. 2024-10-31_UUID-overlay.png is type, stickers, geofilters. Video overlays sometimes arrive as overlay.zip. Importing the PNG alone is what makes the black square.
What this site does
The scanner counts paired overlays before you pay. Pro draws the PNG over the main frame (photos via canvas, videos via ffmpeg.wasm when it loads) and then writes dates/GPS on the single file. Unmatched overlays go in unmatched-overlays/ instead of being glued to the wrong Snap.
